In 1973 - defended his Ph.D. thesis, in 1985 - defended his doctoral dissertation.

In 2004 he was elected a corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

For the first time in surgical practice, he introduced functional endoscopic methods for the treatment of diseases of the nose and paranasal sinuses.

Initiator of the creation of the Russian Society of Rhinologists in 1992; was its first Chairman, was elected for two terms as the President of the society.

Founder of the journal "Russian Rhinology" (1993), for many years he was its editor-in-chief.

Under his leadership, 6 doctoral and 20 master's theses were defended.

The results of scientific research are presented in more than 370 papers, including 19 monographs, 169 articles in peer-reviewed journals; 11 in foreign journals.
